Shadow Run, a poem

October 2, 2012

Night running is part surreal
And part too real
Silence screams between your ears
Darkness blinds every glance
Breath.

Hit the road as the sun is gone for a while
Find your own route
Breath.

The dog snaps silently to less than a foot from your face
Before the leash pulls taught
Breath.

Rain soaked pavement slithers underneath
Looking for the next step
Breath.

Evening is calm and the sky an orange-ish pink
Echos follow each foot fall
Breath.

The pace quickens as the run winds down
One final, endless straightaway
Breath.

All at once the road ends and you are home.
Light.
Breath.
